In contrast with Cambodian cities like Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Kampot has a very relaxed pace of life.

A small sleepy riverside town, on the southern coast, it also offers more scenic landscapes, and a relatively cooler climate.

Infrastructure is good, and constantly progressing, and the town is full of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and accommodation.

Since the decline in reliable water and electricity services in Sihanoukville from the sporadic and adhoc development of high rise buildings and mega casinos from 2018, Kampot is growing in population from migrations of both local and expat residents seeking more relaxed environments and more reliable services.

Situated just 1 hour from the Vietnam border crossing of Ha Tien, Kampot residents have access to beautiful countryside, salt fields, mountains and the beach and National Park at Kep (just a 25 minute car journey).
